Isaiah said what?

By Lisa Risa • July 1st, 2007

You know, I’ve never seen an episode of Grey’s Anatomy. I’ll admit it, the show just didn’t connect with me. Maybe it’s because I’ve never been into dramas like ER. But when I saw the awards show back in January where Isaiah Washington made a repeat of his gay slur I found myself saying, ‘Wow.’

I also don’t know about rehab for people who make anti gay comments and slurs but after his problems started Isaiah started on his journey to find one. Apparently he didn’t find one, or so he whines anyways. I was also surprised and found myself with my hand over my mouth saying ‘Oh my God’ after reading his recent interview where he claims that the only reason he was fired from the show was due to racism on ABC’s part.

It’s hard to say definitively if Washington deserved to be fired from the show, but one thing is for certain. People who aren’t even gay found the decision justifiable under the circumstances according to a CNN poll.

But back to that recent interview. Washington, who seems to be suffering from a constant bout of sour grapes, went on a less then graceful tirade in what many people are calling a shameful act of self promotion. Washington opted out of leaving quietly and instead accused the Grey’s producers of being the equivalent of old, white plantation owners.

The Oh my God part for me was this part:

‘Well, it didn’t help me on the set that I was a black man who wasn’t a mush-mouth Negro walking around with his head in his hands all the time. I didn’t speak like I’d just left the plantation and that can be a problem for people sometimes. I had a person in human resources tell me after this thing played out that `some people’ were afraid of me around the studio. I asked her why, because I’m a 6-foot-1, black man with dark skin and who doesn’t go around saying `Yessah, massa sir’ and `No sir, massa’ to everyone?’

Wow. I was really surprised he would say something like that, all joking aside. I really thought he would just go off quietly after this whole thing ended. I guess not.
