Who says you can’t go home?

By Lisa Risa • June 3rd, 2007

Ahh, yes, northern New Hampshire. Home of the 2 snowy tv stations and ABC! You get tired of watching all ABC all the time when you are a kid. And it is also the home of 2 radio stations, and one is in French!

By the time this issue is published I will be on a flight to New Hampshire to help the family, well, my sister. My sister and I have always had an interesting relationship. My sister can’t stand me sometimes because I was always the outgoing one in the family (believe that one if you want to, or not) and she was the quiet one. I love to talk and she talks about relevant things. She stayed behind while I was the loud joker. It’s going to be an interesting week, I think she is already mourning the thought. Personally, I haven’t been back there in 5 years (what happened to that yearly trip Mike?) and this should be fun.

She hates being around me but I was thinking of her first when I asked her if I could go along too. She normally goes with my mother, but my grandfather recently fell and broke his ribs. They put him in a rehab facility, much to his disdain. So my mother moved in with my dear grandmother to help her while he is away. I realized at that point my sister would be spending the week doing nothing, so I offered my services and bought that ticket. I’ve got nothing going on until the end of the month anyways.

New Hampshire has an interesting beauty to it that is hard to describe, but it makes for a really fun road trip. I’m going to be really bummed when I get to the Old Man on the Mountain part. But spending a week traveling a state I consider my adopted home is going to be fun, I hope. I would totally go see a Sox game, but that would mean me having to drive in Boston. I already had to explain to an officer on Cape Cod why I was driving down the wrong lane of a main street. Look, I didn’t know they were one direction in both lanes. No, I’m not drunk!

Maybe this will turn out like one of those movies where people hug at the end and a lesson is learned, or maybe this will end with me being dumped on the side of the road near the Canadian boarder. We shall find out in a week or so.

Hmmm, Canadia…

Lisa Risa is I live in quiet, and at times boring, Deltona, FL. I am married to Mike and we have both been on the many incarnations of the board since 1999. I love writing, photography and collecting antiques.
