Sux about the teeth, but in the past when my dog or cat was given a different brand or kind of food, they wouldn't eat it for a couple days... when they get hungry enough, they'd eat, and get used to the new food.

My dog now gets the senior formula of food from Pet s'mart, which has glucosamine in it. She actually liked it better than the regular formula. Since she's less active (finally!) she doesn't need to eat as much, so I've had to cut down on the portions I give her.  Ya don't really notice when your dog slowly gains weight, but when a fitty pound dog weighs in at sixty pounds when you take it to the vet ... that's a pretty big jump.

Perhaps some day, when her teeth start to go bad, I'll have to mix the hard food with soft food... but so far, she's only ever had the hard food... with the occasional pieces of table scraps as treats.  Hopefully the hard food will keep her teeth from actually going bad... one less thing to worry about.

I wasn't aware they made that... Our dog has been on the same brand since we switched off puppy food, going on 13 years now. That may be a big change for him, but something like that may help his legs. Thanks for mentioning it!

Gummy's doing a little better today. Funny. I bought Angel one of those doggie steps a couple of years ago to get up and down off the bed. She never used it. I put it in front of the couch and now Gumdrop goes up and down at will.

Angel has to eat prescription food ($40 a bag!) so I got a coupon for a free bag of food with the adoption. I got Nutro Natural Choice Small Bites Senior. The vet said it was a good choice. For some reason the cats love it too!

Maybe I'm wrong (and it has been known) but is DummyDeux usurping Molly's role as crazy cat lady?

My dog acts like a 2 year old child on crack with ADD. Quite a handful but I love her.

I don't remember if this has been mentioned before. Be careful with cheap cat food. If you look at the ingredients, often you will see a percentage of ash in the food. I don't know why it's allowed but it is. It causes urinary tract blockages. I found out the hard way one time by having to pay for an operation on a cat that could have been avoided.
