drummy

Here is something you won’t see very often in my pictures…people. I don’t take a lot of picture of people, generally because I hate people. Especially as subjects for pictures. I think part of it is that I don’t like having my picture taken so I don’t think it is fair for me to subject other people to my lens. I do take pictures of my family, but don’t expect to so those here…I don’t see that ever happening.

Anyway I was back at Epcot today and was trying to get some pictures in the Japanese Tea Garden, but it wasn’t going so well because the sun was too bright. As I am sitting there looking through the view finder, I hear it…the drum. The deep resonating rhythms of tribal drumming. What is it about those drums…it taps into something deep within us…

I tried to get some shots that would show more “movement”, but there just wasn’t enough light for a slower shutter speed.

Sorry I have been slacking a little bit. I had photographer’s block or something. I actually took this picture a couple days ago, but never got around to processing it. I guess I could blame it on the TV. With all the new shows on I have been a bit distracted.

And before you say…”damn dem nanners look funny or sumpin”, they are not nanners. They are plantains, latin style nanners. I think they have to be cooked, usually pan fried with some butter and cinnamininin. OK I don’t know if they have to be cooked or not, but I have never heard about them not being cooked…well I mean I have never heard of them being eaten not cooked.

I have been thinking for a while that it would great to get a shot of the steam engine at the Magic Kingdom (I know there is technically more than one train…but I only want a picture of a steam engine so I don’t particularly care which one…) so I went over there today to try to get the shot. I don’t think that I got any goods…maybe one, but I am still thinking on it.

Anyway so I walked around a bit looking for some other stuff to shoot. Unfortunately like I mentioned before it is hard to get decent pictures of things at the theme parks because it ends up looking kind of fake…cause well it is fake. One thing that Disney usually does pretty good is the horticulture…you know the plants and stuff. So I set out to find some flowers.

(I think it’s a rose)

You ever run out to pick up a pizza and you notice this great sunset and you think “damn that would make a cool picture, too bad I left my fucking camera at home”. Yeah I hate when that happens.

That is why I always try to grab my camera when I leave the house, even if it is just a quick trip to pick up the pizza.

fake

Filed under: Uncategorized — mlg @ 8:21 pm

A couple months ago I read about a technique for shooting flowers in a “studio” setting, but I haven’t had any flowers to try it with. No, my wife doesn’t like flowers…”they are a waste of money cause they just die”. Anyway last night I remembered that we had some fake flowers sitting around somewhere so I figured I would see how it worked.

Well…I think it worked great. Actually it worked a hell of a lot better than I thought it would. I was thinking that it would look really fake or something…plastic-y maybe? Turns out that it does look really fake, but for whatever reason that is why I like it because you can see that is fake. Maybe it is because you can see the texture of the fabric, or the detail in the frayed edges.

So, I think the technique works and need to find some real flowers to try it out with.
