How is this for for a quickie?

It is so much easier to light a subject that doesn’t have contrasting colors…

I don’t think this is the best of tree pics, but it is OK I guess.

I thought this ornamental would be a nice subject for a quick pic. The thing is…I forgot that black and white subjects are a pain in the ass to light. See the white reflects bunches of light and the black sucks up bunches of light. Add to that I really only wanted to light the penguin not the tree…in other words I was trying to keep the black parts of the penguin from getting sucked into the void of the unlit tree parts. Man I think that was a run on sentence…anyway here is what I came up with.

For those of you who don’t know, the guy that owns this website is addicted to Diet Mountain Dew. A couple mutual friends asked me if I could some up with some kind of DMD pic that we could give him. So I went to the store and picked up a couple bottles of DMD and took some test pics. The first set of pics had a white background with some backlighting that kind of made the bottle look like it was glowing. One of the people who previewed the first draft asked if I could try it with a black background. There is no way to backlight a black background and have it not turn to gray…so I came up with something to make the bottle glow and have a black background…
