puzzling
Something that I had in common with my Grandfather was puzzles. Not the jigsaw kind the brain teaser kind. I would often give him puzzles for gifts. I am pretty sure that he would often look at the solutions because he didn’t have the patience to work out the hard ones. Maybe at one time he would have worked them out, but I think what he enjoyed more than solving the puzzle was understanding how and why the solution worked. You know the mechanics of the whole thing…
He also enjoyed watching someone else try to solve the puzzle. He would often have a bunch of them stashed in his coffee table and would pull them out for people to solve. For a few years he got into magic, but I guess this ultimately became frustrating for him, because he wanted to tell people how to do the tricks which is a no no in magic. So that was the other half of the thing with puzzles. When you couldn’t figure it out he would show you how to solve it.
When he passed away a couple years ago I inherited some of his “toys”. This was one of his puzzles.

Some of the other toys were tops and yo-yos…lots of yo-yos actually. Come to think of it one of his tops should make for a pretty cool pic…I just have to figure a good way to capture it…hmm.
