Stupid
I am generally a very accepting person, but I have a very low threshold for “stupid”. It’s not like I don’t appreciate the dumb stuff, I can laugh at the lowest common denominator stuff, I am talking about genuinely stupid people. Like People who decide at the last minute they need to be in the right lane when they have be driving 5 miles under the speed limit in the left lane for that last 10 minutes…
Or the co-worker who asks the same question 3 different times with slightly different words expecting to get a different answer…and when you tell them “well just like I told you yesterday…”, they look at you with their head cocked to one side like my dog does when I say “walk” and she is trying to figure out if I am really going to take her for a walk. I am not surprised by this reaction from my dog since we don’t really speak the same language, but I would assume that my co-workers could understand what I am saying. I guess to the average person it might sound like a bunch of gibberish considering I am giving “techie” answers, but when it is a “tech” asking you a “techie” question, they should understand a “techie” answer…
Who am I kidding…it’s not really “co-workers“, it is just the one guy…the one guy who thinks he knows everything…the one guy that tells other co-workers he could have my job. The best is that he has told several people that he is smarter than me…sure whatever. Why is it that stupid people seem to be the ones always talking about how smart they are. I have a pretty good head on my shoulders, but I don’t feel the need to go around bragging about it.
The problem is not so much the bragging, but in order to support the claims that he is smarter than everybody, he has to have an answer to every question. It doesn’t matter if he knows the right answer or that he even understand the question… One day at a meeting with all of our “techies” this guy throws out some shit about network protocols and transports layers or some shit, whatever it was aside from using the correct terms he was completely wrong. I looked around the room and there where at least two other people that had the same “what the fuck are you talking about” look on their face that I did…
Then there is the “at
I think that corporate America is the breeding ground for this type of idiot. In a big corp., especially one that is not tech oriented, the guys at the top don’t know TCP/IP from Cat 5 so all you have to do is sound like you know what the fuck you are talking about and always have a quick answer… This shit doesn’t play in a small company, where the people at the top had to all the grunt shit back in the day because there was no one else to do it. I am disappointed in myself for not seeing through this guy’s bullshit before we hired him, because within 2 weeks of him starting his job I knew he was talking out of his ass. I am learning “Do you know about this?” is not a good interview technique, but in my defense…my input on the hiring process is “he seems OK”…so it was not my fault…or something.
